Waitwhile is designed to replace traditional lines with digital queues, making it easier for businesses to manage their customer flow. This system works well for many types of businesses, but in certain situations where there is a sudden surge of people looking to register at once, adjustments may be needed to keep everything running smoothly.
Introducing Performance Mode
To help businesses handle these high-demand moments—like a sudden rush of customers—Waitwhile offers a special feature called Performance Mode. When enabled, this mode tweaks how the system organizes and processes sign-ups to allow more customers to join the queue quickly.
To allow for the additional registrations, this specific configuration reduces the number of checks Waitwhile makes to it's database. This means the system might briefly show some inconsistencies, like two customers appearing with the same position in line or slightly exceeding the maximum number of people allowed on a waitlist.
How Performance Mode Helps
Performance mode is particularly useful for businesses that rely on bookings, such as exclusive museum exhibits, limited appointment availability for high demand, where customers book a specific time slot. In these cases, the system can focus only on available slots, without worrying about overlap, allowing for faster processing without any downsides.
Example: High-Throughput Bookings
If each booking is assigned to a distinct time slot (with no overlap), Waitwhile doesn’t need to check availability across the entire calendar. In this case, enabling Performance Mode can significantly boost speed without any noticeable downsides.
A Case-by-Case Solution
Many businesses have successfully used Waitwhile to manage sudden spikes in customer demand. However, it's important for each business to consider whether the benefits of performance mode outweigh any temporary quirks it may introduce.
It’s important to consider:
Are brief inconsistencies acceptable to your team and customers?
Are you prioritizing throughput and speed over perfect real-time accuracy?
Is your business model compatible with the tradeoffs?
If you're unsure, we recommend discussing your specific use case with our support team or your Customer Success Manager to determine if Performance Mode is the right fit.
