Service categories in Waitwhile allow businesses to organize their offerings into easily identifiable groups, enhancing the customer booking experience. These categories help ensure that customers only see relevant services based on the type of appointment they are scheduling or the service provider they select.

In this article, we’ll define the different visibility options and provide recommendations for when they are best used.

Service category visibility options

Go to Settings > Services > Service options to review the four (4) Service category display options.

  1. Group categories on a single page:

  2. Display categories on different pages

  3. Don't display categories

  4. Select category before selecting services

1. Group categories on a single page:

Display all services on a single page separated by service categories that can be minimized or expanded for easy viewing

When to use: Group service categories on a single page when you want to streamline the customer registration experience and make it easier for users to browse and select the appropriate service.

  • Multiple Related Services

  • Simplifying the Registration Flow

  • When Offering Bundled Services

  • Limited Categories

2. Display categories on different pages

Display each category and assigned services on separate pages during the registration process.

When to use: Display service categories on separate pages when you want to guide customers through a more structured selection process

  • Specialized Booking Flow

  • Targeting Different Customer Segments

Don't use this option when your business has Services set as required. Rather than allowing your customers scroll through all service category pages before making a selection, Waitwhile will require one selection from each category page.

3. Don't display categories

Remove categories from customer visibility and show all services in a single list format

Use when: You should avoid displaying service categories when doing so adds unnecessary complexity or disrupts the user’s experience

  • Single Service Offering

  • Simple Booking Flow

  • When Grouping Doesn't Add Value

  • Limited Customer Interaction

4. Select category before selecting services

Allow the customer to select a category before seeing the individual services offered for that category offering.

Use when: Displaying your service categories before showing individual services can enhance the customer experience.

  • Large Volume of Services

  • Clear Service Differentiation

  • Distinct Service Types

  • Clearer Navigation and Choice
